In this section, students
of 1ESO were studying household vocabulary, as well as the verb “to have”
and the grammatical structures for “there is/are.” Students
worked in pairs to design their dream house, draw it, and label the
rooms and furniture inside. The students were very creative in their
designs and it was evident that they took pride in their work. House
types ranged from villas to castles, boat houses, and even a tree
house. Inside, houses included all the regular rooms, such as a
kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc., as well as more innovative
rooms, such as home theaters and indoor pools. In addition to a floor
plan, the students also drew the furniture they expected their dream
house to have, such as beds, sofas, lamps, and cupboards. Some chose
to add a garage in which they kept a ferrari or a motorcycle. After
collaborating to draw and label the house, the students then
presented their house to their classmates. They were expected to use
the forms “there is/are,” as in “there are two balconies,”
and the verb “to have,” as in “the house has got two floors.”
